ریت کی بلند دیواریں دم سادھے کھڑی تھیں ۔ خود میں بہت سے راز سموئے وہ تیز ہواؤں کے سنگ ورد میں تھیں ۔ اسے محسوس ہوا جیسے وہ ایک وسیع صحرا میں سانس لے رہی ہے جو خاموش ہو کر ہی اپنی موجودگی ظاہر کر رہا ہے ۔ رات میں ایک پراسراریت کا سماں تھا ۔

” ک۔۔ کوئی ہے ؟” دہشت زدہ ہو کر اس نے پکارا ۔ آواز کی گونج دور دور تک پہنچی ۔ جواب ندارد۔ وہ چھوٹے چھوٹے محتاط قدم لیے آگے بڑھی ۔ ایک جما دینے والا احساس اس کے اندر جڑ پکڑ رہا تھا ۔ خوف ، وحشت ، بدحواسی سب ایک ساتھ اس پر غالب آ رہے تھے ۔

” کیا یہ میرا انجام ہے ؟” اسکی بوجھل نظریں اس سرد تاریکی میں واپس پلٹ آئیں ۔ اس کے علاوہ وہاں کوئی نہیں تھا ۔ وہ تنہا تھی ۔ ڈھے جانے والے انداز میں وہ وہیں ڈھیر ہو گئی ۔

” آپ ۔۔” اعصاب پر طاری بوجھ کے باعث، اس کی گویائی بس یہیں تک محدود رہی ۔ اس نے چادر کو کس کر تھام لیا ۔ کچھ تھا جو اب ماحول میں بدل چکا تھا ۔ جیسے ہواؤں نے رخ بدل لیا ہو ۔
