“چائے نہیں پی آپ نے ؟” اُنہوں نے ملائمت سے کہتے ایان بھائی سے پوچھا ۔ اور میں جو اُنکے لیے مار کھاتا تھا اُنہوں نے مجھے دیکھنا تک گوارہ نہیں کیا۔ ان کی آواز سنتے ہی ایان بھائی کے چہرے پر جاندار مسکراہٹ نے ڈیرہ ڈال لیا۔ پہلے جو غائب دماغی تھی اب ڈھونڈنے سے بھی نہ مل رہی تھی۔ انہوں نے نرمی سے کہا۔
“ٹھندی ہو گئی ۔لیکن میں گرم کر لوں گا” مریم باجی کے چہرے پر خفگی کے تاثرات ابھرے ۔
جب وہ بولیں تو آواز میں ایک استحقاق تھا۔” تو کیا میں یہاں شو پیس ہوں،جو بس سجا کر رکھنے کے لیے ہے؟ میں کر دیتی ہو ں نا چائے گرم”
اُنکی یہ لائن کم از کم میرے نزدیک مصنوعی تھی۔ بھلا اکیسویں صدی کی کون سی لڑکی ایسے بولتی ہے ؟ سائقہ کو تو بستر سے اٹھنے کے لیے بھی چار کندھے چاہیے ہوتے تھے ۔
ایان بھائی نے نفی میں سر ہلایا اور انہیں کہا۔”تمہیں سردی میں آنے کی ضرورت نہیں تھی ، میری ۔میں ریو سے کروا لوں گا۔تم جاؤ ۔اور یاد سے ہیٹر چلا لینا” وہ ہمیشہ انہیں ‘میری’کہہ کر پکارتے تھے، جیسے کوئی نازک سا نام ہو، کوئی انگریزی لڑکیوں کا مخصوص نام، جو اپنائیت میں ڈھل کر محض ایک لفظ نہیں، بلکہ ایک جذبہ بن جائے۔
مریم باجی نے پہلی بار مجھ پر نظر ِکرم ڈالی۔ وہ بھی اس وجہ سے کیونکہ ایان بھائی نے میری جانب اشارہ کیا تھا ۔ مجھے دیکھ کر وہ مسکرائیں۔ لیکن مجھے اب اُنکی مسکراہٹ نہیں چاہیے تھی ۔ مجھے تو چائے گرم کرنے کا سوچ کر ہی ہول اٹھ رہے تھے۔
انہوں نے “ہیٹر تو میں چلا لوں گی، لیکن آپ بھی لحاف اوڑھ لیجئے گا” کہتے ہوئے ایان بھائی کی طرف سوالیہ نظروں سے دیکھا، جیسے پوچھ رہی ہوں، “پکا؟ چائے گرم کروا لیں گے یا نہیں؟”
وہ بات کرتے کرتے درمیانی فاصلہ عبور کر کے ہمارے قریب آگئیں اور خالی کرسی پر دھیرے سے بیٹھ گئیں۔ سرد ہوا کے تیز تھپیڑوں نے ان کے ہاتھوں کو بے جان سا کر دیا تھا، جنہیں وہ بےاختیار آپس میں رگڑ کر حرارت پہنچانے کی کوشش کر رہی تھیں۔
ایان بھائی نے ایک لمحے کی تاخیر کیے بغیر اپنے اونی سویٹر سے ہاتھ باہر نکالے اور آگے بڑھ کر ان کے یخ بستہ ہاتھ اپنے گرم ہتھیلیوں میں تھام لیے۔ نرمی اور اپنائیت کے ساتھ انہیں تھپکتے ہوئے جیسے اپنی حرارت ان کے لرزتے ہاتھوں میں منتقل کر رہے ہوں۔
“تمہیں اپنا خیال رکھنا چاہیے، میری۔ کم از کم اب بستر سے نکلو تو ایک گرم چادر ضرور اوڑھ لینا” ایان بھائی کی آواز میں وہی مان تھا، جو اپنوں کے لیے مخصوص ہوتا ہے۔ ان کے لہجے میں ایک نرم سی سرزنش بھی تھی، اور وہ بے ساختہ مسکرا دی تھیں
